Present: Of Counsel, PEARSON BUTLER, PLLC. Clayton works closely with financial advisors, tax professionals, insurance brokers, non-profit guardianship organizations and others whose clients are in need of estate planning, business succession planning, legal assistance for people with disabilities, the elderly and other vulnerable persons.
Present: Investors Title Insurance Agency, Inc. Designated Title Producer. His responsibilities include consulting with and assisting the agency in business expansion, compliance, best practices and due diligence. He is authorized signatory on Title Commitments and Title Insurance Policies. He also recruits and supports new title producers, including Utah attorneys looking to expand their service base to include offering title and escrow services.
Prior to joining Pearson Butler and Investors Title, in the respective capacities listed above, I spent the previous 12 years working in the title insurance industry on an in-house basis with Attorneys Title Guaranty Fund, Inc., a title insurance underwriter (2003 to 2014), followed by a brief association with Old Republic Title Insurance Company (2014 to 2015) During those years I was able to engage in a large number of activities, such as:
Acted as chief recruiter of new individual and entity title agents. Provided underwriting support to appointed agents. Engaged in training of new and prospective agents.
Maintained regular and consistent contact with all ATGF-underwritten title agents and agencies. Drafted and submitted all new and amended title policy forms to Utah Department of Insurance. Drafted and disseminated newsletters and statutory and administrative news and updates to agents and agencies. Wrote draft administrative rule (R592-8), putting into place a statutory exception, granting attorneys with real estate experience, as defined by Rule, an entity agency license, despite having fewer than three years of individual title and escrow licensure, as normally required for new Utah title agencies.
He spent the years prior to moving into the title underwriting world practicing law, first in San Diego, CA for several years, followed by Salt Lake City and Orem, UT, providing estate and business planning, pension and retirement planning, real estate and general transactional services for a diverse clientele.
He loves sports of all kinds, and enjoy spending time in the mountains, at the beach, at the lake, cycling, hiking, camping (no guns, please), body-boarding, body surfing, snorkeling, etc. He loves photography, guitar, music (not from his guitar), and delicious, spicy food. He is married, with three beautiful daughters, great sons-in-law, and awesome grandkids (who make the Old-Guy jokes worth listening to).
